Dear Friends,
I wanted to be in touch as we face such grave issues as a country. Obviously, the most important is the effort to spur growth and focus on fostering job creation.
I recently visited businesses to discuss these initiatives and the President’s American Jobs Act, which is intended to help small businesses through tax cuts, tax credits for new hires, and business expensing while making critical job creation and economic investments across the country.
One of the pieces of this legislation includes the Fix America’s Schools Today Act. This effort would modernize schools and improve the quality of education for our children by investing $30 billion in our K-12 schools and community colleges. With so many school districts facing deep budget cuts, these funds would allow schools to make needed renovations by improving the learning environment for our kids and putting thousands of people to work through construction projects.
Over the long-term, we need to go back to being a nation that builds things again. My own plan and work includes the National Infrastructure Bank Act which I have worked to build bipartisan support. It leverages private dollars to invest in transportation, water, energy and telecommunications projects with significant economic, environmental and social benefits for our region. This piece of legislation is now supported by the AFL-CIO and the Chamber of Commerce.
Also important is the Manufacturing Reinvestment Act which helps small businesses and companies expand and re-invest. I introduced this legislation after working with the Greater New Haven Manufacturers Association.
Your friendship and support have allowed me to serve the people of Connecticut and I hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.
Sincerely,
Rosa L. DeLauro
